For a short while I slowed down some of the work on MeeGoExperts and I think about that time some work started on the WhatsApp port for MeeGo Harmattan / Maemo. HOW / WHAT / WHEN ???? I only found out last night thanks to some some tweeters icon smile [WIP] Whatsapp being Ported to Meego Harmattan / Maemo (Nokia N9, N900) (@NokiaN9stuff @Horizon_fall @RobertHall and @kegnatz).

A Large portion of the community have been asking WhatsApp for this directly and also through various pertitions like “Develop a Nokia N9 MeeGo-Harmattan version of WhatsApp Messenger” and so far they have not been inclined to do one and therefore I’m even happier that the community is banding together on this.

The work is being carried out on this thread at Talk Maemo so please feel free to logon and contribute.

 

Thought I’d start a new thread in the dev section for people to post stuff specifically related to porting whatsapp, hopefully I can and other devs can find things much easier if it’s in a single dev only thread.

So to start of with Whatsapp uses XMPP according to wikipedia:

Whats different about whats app is that it allows >1 person to be involved in a conversation, not sure whether XMPP supports this (this shows im not an XMPP expert) ……
