As we all know MeeGo is the Operating System (OS) created through the joint efforts between Nokia and Intel. Fast forward and the Nokia N9 was born to critical acclaim and the sure end of the Operating System. Well according to Netbook news they have information from a industry insider that:
“Nokia is working on 2 new low end MeeGo handsets”
… and the information was received directly from Nokia’s Next Billion Group. The Next Billion Group are responsible for bringing the next billion people to the internet.

At Nokia World 2011 in London I did hear whispers of Nokia still working on MeeGo but I put that down to people confusing Meltimi with MeeGo as both are Linux based OS’s.
Could MeeGo still survive beyond these two devices ?
Well the role of MeeGo within Nokia is claimed to be “future disruption in mobile ecosystem”, So being on another Billion devices certainly could be seen as a world wide disruption but we will have to wait and see what these two devices have in store.
Many have felt that Nokia’s decision of not pursuing MeeGo was incorrect considering its existing development base, the fact it is Linux and therefore requires lower specification hardware and also the fact that the NOKIA N9 ROCKS !
Could MeeGo have more in store ? Lets see hey ….

hopefully this a true, if Nokia keep the platform alive and produce a variety of meego devices then we should get more third party developer support. Love my n9, Nokia should pay attention to bloggers and get behind the platform as a second front as wp7 is going to be a long slow road….
It may be the harmatten UI(built on Qt) which will be ported on to Meltemi or S40. Who knows! Recent S40 phones have comparatively high specs.
Damn I hope that they’ll release a QWERTY phone running Linux
I doubt if this will happen, as meego team in on Tizen now, Tizen(Meego, Samsung and Intel project) is with Samsung….nokia ditched Meego and went with Microsoft, dig their own grave Elope is lousy, everyone at Nokia have lost their minds, i love my N900 i would be leaving Nokia once Samsung has a phone with Tizen Os on it…for that matter i will go with Huawei as they have also backed Tizen…N9 wasnt released world wide what a shame, just for that lousy WP7 Lumia was coming out…Nokia is going Down..hate them, no successor for N900…i love my Tablet..this is the best fone ever nokia has ever manufactured
The Nokia N9 doesn’t run the real RPM-based MeeGo. Alothough it’s called MeeGo it’s an updated version af the Debian-based Maemo OS by Nokia that’s running on the N900.
So just because MeeGo is dead Nokia can still change the name on their own Maemo OS yet again and release some more phones running it if they want.
Nokia is so psychzophrenic under elop. If its true that’ll be what, the fourth major statement he’s made that he’s had to back track on. Certainly hope its true, as an n9 owner though.
If this is true, then it’s the best news to come out of Nokia for a year.
Nokia need a fall back plan against the failure of Windows Phones to generate the sales and revenue stream needed by the company.
We can only hope that the sales embargo on the Meego/Harmatten devices across Europe and the USA has a time limit, and once the Lumia 900 has been launched we can see them introduced worldwide.
Nokia sells more phones in the 3rd world countries than anyone else in the industry. They know that they are not competitive enough & at least not at this point in time in the top-end market which is dominated by iOS & Android. To add another two low-end Meego phones to their portfolio would be a good move. At least 3rd world countries consumers would have a choice between S40 & Megoo OS.
Hope to see querty meego device.
