Quick Hack posted at Maemo Brief if you want to get rod of the “Click” sound of the N9 Camera:
Remove the snd_camera_shutter.wav file from /usr/share/sounds/ui-tones
After you have done the above restart the phone and your away !!!

Thanks for this, I was looking for a way to disable the camera sounds, but instead of removing the file you can just hide it by renaming it to .snd_camera_shutter.wav
You can also do the same for the auto focus and video start/stop sounds.
MAGIC…. that’s why I love MeeGo,Symbian, Maemo… you can do a lot of things there =D thank you…

sounds to me like a really dirty hack.. the camera app would still try to load the soundfile and just give up… isn’t there a config file where you can write
camera_sound = none;
or something like that?????
I think xapient is right, at least in regards to the video recorder start/stop sounds, when I hide the video recorder sounds I had issues with the N9 recording sound but no video, so I created a half second blank wav file and renamed it to which ever snd camera file name I wanted to replace and copied them over and every thing has been fine… the video camera works fine and there are no more camera or video sounds.
Hi, I have created a silent .wav file and can copy it to Downloads, but how can I get it from there to /usr/share/sounds/ui-tones? From my PC I can’t see that path. From terminal on the N9 I can’t see Downloads. I’m sure I’m missing something obvious. Any ideas?
I have done it now – I’m just not very familiar with Linux file locations.
If u wanna get rid of the sound for a moment go to start screen and lower the sound with the button on the side to silence. That will shut down even the cam sound for as long u have the sound of.
So simple like this, just putting on silence the phone and done, is not necessary to do anything else, cool!
