Well it appears that Engadget has been reaching out to “Espoo” in recent weeks in an attempt to nail down a US ship date for the Nokia N9 and this is the reply they got:
“After the very positive reception to the launch of the Nokia N9, the product is now being rolled out in countries around the world. At this time we will not be making it available in the US. Nokia takes a market by market approach to product rollout, and each country makes its own decisions about which products to introduce from those available. Decisions are based on an assessment of existing and upcoming products that make up Nokia’s extensive product portfolio and the best way in which to address local market opportunities.”
I don’t think Developers and Nokia loyal followers would appreciate this move. Nokia, RETHINK !
Engadget also went on to mention that the UK would possibly not get the device but I disagree with their summary as quite a few retailers are gearing up to receive the phone at THIS point which could change.

You guys actually think it’s up to Nokia where it goes, come on. It’s the operators that get the say not Nokia. If the US operators say no we will not push or market the device then Nokia does not have much choice in the matter. Especially in the US where the mobile operators spend an absolute fortune in marketing devices
Why should operators or app developers back Nokia on the MeeGo/N9 if their new CEO thinks its not good enough for Nokia to continue that path. He has sold Nokia’s future to MS.
I think the strategy is simple here – Nokia doesn’t want to upstage Sea Ray when they deploy it to North America. Check out today’s Slashgear website for a story about a possible leak suggesting Sea Ray will be coming to AT&T. Nokia’s deciding which markets they will push WP in, and will keeping Meego out of those, I think. Almost understandable, but WRONG. If they think that the N9 would undercut WP handset sales so much, just give us all the N9 and dump WP!!!
Of course in Canada where I am we don’t get half the interesting Nokias anyway so can’t say this changes much for us…
Does anyone even question that Elop is only acting in Microsoft’s best interests to detriment of Nokia? This is just getting ridiculous, when will the board fire Elop, when Nokia is down to 7% marketshare, 4%, who knows. The whole world knows the whole WP7 strategy is f**ked, so why doesn’t Nokia’s board?

i read the news today: nokia will sell only WP7 in north america – this sounds like ballmer is raping nokia!
its clear by the uncompetitive price that elop wants to make the n9 fail to give its windows phone a better chance. I just hope their are enough meego fans out there to get the message through to the general public that just because the windows phone is pushed by the networks and it has a massive advertising budget that its no better than what else is in the market. apple have done a great job at hyping its products into peoples pockets, don’t let nokia get away with this tack-tick to shift its windows phone.
If this rumors are true I just say this:
Don’t blame Nokia for not releasing N9 in US.

Microsoft wants to take control of the users and why not start in they r own country first. Also perfect way to kill the US Meego community and int the long run also europoean/Asian countrys.
However I still hope this is just baseless rumors…

It looks almost as if Nokia divides the world into two partitions: one where they see that WP could become successful, and one where this is not the case in the near future. The markets where WP has it very difficult will be entered with the N9 to get Nokia back into business there before totally switching to WP. This is my opinion from looking at this.
N9/Sea Ray bait and switch for USA. People are expecting to see Swipe/Meego Harmattan and soon discover…ugly tiles and a lot of digging.
Read it like this: Microsoft commanded us to sabotage Meego success, because they are allergic to all things Linux.
But don’t despair, Amazon will sell N9 even in US and will sabotage “clever” M$ plans

There is no way I will ever buy any WP7 phone ever. My N8 died on me so I’m not sure I want to give Nokia any more money at all, even for a N9, so please will someone else make a Meego phone! Surely someone out there wants my money?
Good job nokia, get rid of any remaining fans of your brand who might want the n9 in the State’s or the UK. Sadly enough I will still try and get the n9 (ebay) but it will be the last nokia I ever buy, I just do not want wp7 and judging from the popularity of the platform so far I am not alone!
Good job nokia, really outstanding you are going to reclaim the us market on an os that very few people want!
At least release the n9 unlocked through amazon and let people decide what they want.
Kinda strage nokia releases for N9, check the local website nokia.com.mx and will see the next coming for N9 it`s announced, happily for Mexican Nokia Fans.
