Nokia N950 – How To Remove Developer Edition Branding

Are you one of the Lucky Developers that has got a Nokia N950 ? Yes, Hate the “Developer” branding ? Well the following article appeared on the site My MeeGo:

Fortunately, this branding can be easily removed:

* In /usr/share/themes/blanco/meegotouch/constants.ini and /usr/share/themes/blanco/meegotouch/proto/constants.ini you can find several references to PNG files with a dev_ prefix. Just remove that prefix and leave the remaining part of the name – this will make the device use images without branding.

Similarly, in /usr/share/themes/base/meegotouch/sysuid/style/statusarea.css (near the end of the file) you can find two references to PNG files with a dadd- prefix. This time we can’t just remove the prefix as there are no unbranded versions of these files. Instead you can either remove the whole lines referring to these files (or ‘comment’ them using /* and */) which will simply make the device use solid black color for the background instead.

Alternatively, you can create your own replacements for these files (e.g. with your own text instead of “Developer Edition”). The actual graphic files (24-bit PNG) which you can modify (dadd-landscape.png and dadd-portrait.png) are located in /usr/share/themes/base/meegotouch/images/.
